Guatemala Continued...

Day 6: May 16, 2008
Today we had the pleasure of shopping. We rode on a boat to get to Santiago. It was a beautiful site. I got to sit on the top of the boat during the ride, so the scenery was beautiful! Here are some pics of us on the boat and some things around us.

The lovely village of Santiago, Guatemala San Pedro Volcano

One of the opportunities we had in Santiago before we went shopping was to see a disaster that happened in 2005. In October of 2005, because of the hurricane three mudslides occured. It happened during the night so villages were completely buried under the mud. One entire village was buried and 500 people died. It was a terrible site. But our guide told us how God used it to His glory and how many people were saved. He sure is great! I was able to take some pictures.

In this photo, you can see the hole in the trees,
this is where the mudslide came through,
three years ago. Below is a grave. Spain sent in
special dogs that would find
where peoples bodies were so
families could set up a grave
site.

This is the plaque that was set up.

The teacher in me had to put this picture up. It is an Elementary school in Guatemala! YAY!

Day 7: May 17, 2008

Traveling Day again! It was time to leave. We rode to Guatemala City in our bus. This trip took 4 hours again. It was a long one. But, once we got to Guatemala City we did some more shopping and I did some good bartering (with the help of Catalina, my Spanish speaking friend). We also saw some pretty awesome architecture. I got some pictures of a cathedral and some other coll buildings around Guatemala City.
After shopping we spent the night at a college in Guatemala City and ate dinner at a friends house. The next morning we woke up early to go to the airport. We all got through and sat in the airport, with no air conditioning might I add and no air movement at all, nothing as little as a fan, for about two hours. Getting on the plane was a relief. Getting back to the States was great. Walking through the Atlanta airport and hearing "Welcome Home", never felt so good. It was an awesome trip that I loved every minute of. Thanks again to everyone who helped me make this trip happen and for all of your prayers. I hope you enjoyed this small bit of my trip.
